The Riga Latvian Society celebrates Lāčplēsis Day

Remembering and honouring Latvian freedom fighters, the Riga Latvian Society invites to listen to the concert „My Motherland” on November 11, 2013 at 19.00 in the Riga Latvian Society Big Hall. In the concert will participate 16 Latvian men choirs; special guests – Latvian National Opera’s soloist Andris Ludvigs (tenor), pianists: Ilze Ozoliņa, Mārtiņš Zilberts. Concert’s artistic leader and main conductor – Professor Edgars Račevskis.

November 11, 1919 has been written in Latvia’s history as Lāčplēsis Day. It is a day when Latvian Army celebrates its victory over West Russian voluntary army or Bermontian forces – Latvian Army’s men banish invaders from Riga in brave and heroic fight – the freedom is obtained.

Also this year during the Lāčplēsis Day men from all Latvia will come together in the Riga Latvian Society House to remember together our country’s happiest moments and our heroes in the concert „My Motherland”. Men’s sonorous voices in the choir songs will give mental strength to look with hopes in the future and will give special emotional delight. This year important role in the concert programme is given to the composer Jāzeps Vītols, remembering the grand composer’s 150th birthday.  We invite you, dear Riga citizens and guests, to remember at least for a moment and to honour this important event in Latvia’s history and to be together in the Riga Latvian Society Big Hall. Entrance in the concert is for free.
