Great Lent compositions in the Riga Latvian Society House
In the Christianity Great Lent is associated with the Saviour's
sufferings and His death on the cross reflecting on faith and betrayal, sin and
penance, pain and sacrifice, compassion and absolution. The intensely dramatic
episode depicted in he Bible has deeply rooted in sacred music. At the same
time it has inspired the greatest composers in the whole world's history of
music to transform the message into the most remarkable and expressive pieces
such as Passions, Stabat Mater etc.
The brightest pearls of this genre are the Great Lent compositions
by the Orthodox monks and the pure genius Russian composers for men choir.
Latvian Orthodox men choir Logos under the priest Ioanne Shenrock invites you all to follow and reflect the spirits in the Latvian Society
House Big Hall on 22 March at 6 pm.
