«The variable and the permanent in translator’s attitude towards the original text”- reading by Jānis Sīlis

 

Translating is one of the practice spheres of nowadays language that influences and reflects language tendencies. Every translator has a contact with many and different his own work’s aspects – choice of the language style, terminology, norms defined by the state and other involved parts and the aim of the specific text or publication.

 

Doctor of philology, professor of Translation studies faculty’s comparative and contrastive linguistics of Ventspils University College Jānis Sīlis has been invited to the Latvian Language Advancement Group’s discussion in February. Jānis Sīlis in his academic sphere – education of the new translators and interpreters – has been working since 1990s, and thus can have a close look into the development of this efficient profession in rather wide context.

 

Meeting with Jānis Sīlis will take place on February 3, 2014 at 18:00 in the Riga Latvian Society House on Merķeļa Street 13.
