«Language Norms and Language Naturalism» - Narrates Poet Jānis Elsbergs

Latvian Language Advancement Group invites interests to attend the meeting with the popular poet and translator Jānis Elsbergs that will take place on October 7, 2013 at 18.00 at the Riga Latvian Society House. Jānis Elsbergs’ narration’s theme will be „Language Norms and Language Naturalism”.

J. Elsbergs has announced the upcoming narration in the following way: «reflection about how the constantly changing language norms interact with the language natural changes in everyday practice”, the author also adds that his thoughts, possibly, „will strongly differ from the most conservative linguists’ opinions, but maybe exactly this aspect will form an interesting discussion”.

Jānis Elsbergs not only writes poetry, translates novels and poetry to Latvian language, but also participates in the making of different performances, translates plays, has worked as an editor and literary consultant. Publications – starting from the year 1990. His newest works are libretto for the musical „Pūt, vējiņi!” (Blow, the Wind) (music author - Kārlis Lācis) and the translation of Lithuanian author’s Vītauts V. Landsberģis fairytales, published in 2012. J. Elsbergs’ parents: poet Vizma Belševica and violinist, translator and violin maker Zigurds Elsbergs; oldest brother: poet and translator Klāvs Elsbergs (1959–1987).
