ME AND MY MOTHERLAND

 Creative work competition in long-term period helps children and youth with low basic skills, children and youth with functional disorders and children and youth in general to find out and improve their knowledge about Latvian history, culture, to make understanding about identity questions. By participating in these activities, the participants extend their horizon, improve their language style and raise their self-confidence. The event complex stimulates children and youth to positive attitude towards their country, its economic and social problems, to express their opinion in creative work and defend it in communication with the society. During the contest children and youth will have also educational and mutual understanding promoting activity – as a support event that promotes social castaway persons’ alignment in the society, activation and education, as well as education of the rst of the society to reduce stereotypes, to eliminate social rejecting and discrimination threat.


Within the frame of the activity will be organised 2 creative work competitions in two nominations– written work and visual arts work.
First competition (March – May)
Creative work "Me and my home, my family" or "Me and my school"
Second competition (September – November)
Creative work "Me and my friends, my environment" or "Me and my Latvia’s future"

Competition’s target group
In the creative work competition participate children and youth (14 – 19 years old), children and youth with special needs or functional disorders, orphans, as well as Latvian children and youth, who live abroad.
Children from Norway are especially welcome to participate to express their feelings, thoughts about Latvia, to create visual arts works from which the travelling exhibition will be made.

Competition’s rules
First competition’s participants should submit the creative work about the theme „Me and my home, my family” or „Me and my school”.
The competition takes part in 2 nominations – written work or visual arts work.
  The form of the written work is free – it can be an essay, literary work (short story, poetry, play, etc.). In the work should be revealed the author’s personal attitude towards the described event, problem, use of language means should be purposeful, the work should include used source list (also internet sources). 
Visual arts work should be submitted in freely chosen technique in A3 or A4 format. 
We invite participate youth at the age from 14 to 19 years, who learn in schools of general education, minority schools, boarding schools, special schools, as well as learns at home.
The participants will be divided in two age groups: 14-16 years old and 17-19 years old youth (or 7-9 form pupils and 10-12 form pupils).


The submitted works will be evaluated by jury of 3 persons, inviting 2 voluntary specialists, if necessary.
Competition’s works will be evaluated at the end of each competition part and 3 the best works from the both age groups will be brought forward to awarding.


Each creative work competition will end with an educational, literary and musical event, where:
- the best and more interesting work authors will participate in literal readings,
- competition’s participants will have discussion – meeting with the jury members,
- competition’s participants will have an opportunity to have a conversation with a psychologist,
- the concert will be organised,
- exhibition of the best works will be organised,
- awarding of the winners will take place.
The winners of the competition will receive valuable books from different book publishers that support the activity by donating books. 
Competition’s first place acquirers (4 participants from the first competition and 4 participants from the second competition) will participate and make the film „Me and my Motherland”.
The authors of the best works will have opportunity to meet Latvian State higher officials. 
The proceedings of the competition will be disclosed in the Riga Latvian Society home page. The RLS has rights to publish each round’s winners’ works at the home-page.
Written work’s size: to 5 000 symbols (age group from 14 to 16 years),
to 6 000 symbols (age group from 17 to 19 years).
The work should be submitted in printed form.
The work should include the following information about the author: 
Name, surname, year of birth, e-mail and phone number, learning institution, form, as well as learning institution’s address, teacher – consultant’s name and surname, e-mail address and phone number.
Term of the submitting – March 31, 2014. 

The written work with a reference „To contest „Me and my Motherland”” should be submitted electronically. The work is submitted, when the author receives the confirmation about work’s receiving.
