Continues children culturally educational activities’ cycle „Open the World for Opportunities and Skills”

The Riga Latvian Society (RLS) started culturally educational activities’ cycle for children on January 2014. The cycle “Open the World for Opportunities and Skills” continues in September in O.Kalpaks Elementary School’s premises.  

In autumn the activities will take place on 6, 20 September, 4, 18 October and 1, 15, 29 November.  

During the activities the children will have the opportunity to train attention and concentration skills, develop and improve emotional expressing opportunities, reduce tension and promote breaking of different barriers, learn conflict solution, develop social communication and will be promoted to participate in artistic amateur performances.  

To activities are welcome children from children’s homes, Strazdumuiţa Boarding school - development centre for the visually impaired and blind children, Oskars Kalpaks Elementary School of National Arts and Crafts, Latvian Foster Family Society’s social castaway risk subjected children, children and youth from poor families, and children and youth with disabilities.

Autumn’s activities of the year 2014 will be devoted to acquiring of the following crafts:  

•    Handicraft workshop: making of spatial figures, decorations, objects, postcards, collage, toys, ornaments, ethnographic ornaments and acquiring of different handicraft techniques.

•    Ceramics workshop: plant, animal and human stylizations, making of masks, reliefs, small plastic sculptures, ornaments, vessels, acquiring different ways of making ceramic items.  
•    Tie-dye workshop: tie-dye of postcards, napkins, gift bags, decors, clothes, accessories, interior objects in different techniques (fabric printing, marbling, traditional tie-due, silk printing).
•    Sewing, modelling workshop: history of clothe and styles, sewing of interior objects, accessories. Making of patterns, clothe sewing, working with a sewing-machine.
•    In household workshop children will become acquainted with natural materials. They will make table and room decorations: crowns, garlands, Christmas trees and different compositions.

Children culturally educational activities’ cycle takes place within the project „Let’s Open the World for Opportunities and Skills” that is organised by the Riga Latvian Society in cooperation with Creative association for youth TREPES, Strazdumuiţa Boarding school - development centre for the visually impaired and blind children and Latvian society in Norway.
